Does offline translation only work for imported files?

Hey there, I recently tried to use the offline translator and it keeps saying I don’t have credits when using both the in-app browser and the safari extension on iOS, even though I purchased the offline add-on pack and have the local model selected. Does this only work for imported files? Thanks

Hey — thanks for supporting Sumi, and for writing this up. A note on how 1.0.8 works, because this is easy to mix up: The offline pack unlocks the on-device translator. It does not add cloud pages. In 1.0.8, unlimited offline translation applies to files you import into Sumi (PDF, ZIP/CBZ, photos, folders), once the local model is downloaded and selected in Settings. The in-app browser and the Safari extension in 1.0.8 still use cloud translation, which spends your page balance. That’s why you can have the pack, have the local model selected, and still see “out of credits” on those two surfaces. You’re not doing anything wrong. The next update will use your selected local model in the in-app browser as well, with no page credits. Safari will still use the shared page balance for now — the extension can’t run the on-device model yet. Sorry this wasn’t clearer. If an imported chapter also hits the credits wall after the model is downloaded, write back and we’ll take a look. — The Sumi team
